Is the world really being populated more densely with idiots, or am I simply being exposed to a higher percentage than normal? I've worked in retail since I was in H.S. and, though there was always a fair share of idiots, it seems like I've been inundated with them with a peculiar concentration over the past year or so. I can't imagine that, on the whole, Old Navy customers are that much more stupid than, say, Target customers (where I worked before Old Navy) but it also seems I'm standing atop a hill overlooking a blitzkrieg of stupidity not only from the customers, but from the employees as well. Something as simple as a note that reads "Don't lean anything here." or "Put the mops head up so they can drip into the basin and dry." are too complicated for some of our employees. It is quite literally like working with a bunch of the chuushin nubs who can't read the rules or simply choose to ignore them.

Then there's the internet. I understand that everyone has a maturation period, and I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't always the debonair man-about-town that I am now, but I was also not a complete idiot who was incapable of locating and reading something as simple as the rules or help for a forum.

So the question remains...is this a downward intellectual spiral, or am I simply becoming more sensitive to something that was always there?
